Volunteer

Hive5 Innovative STEAM Center – Newmarket, ON
Hive5 Innovative STEAM Center is looking for enthusiastic and motivated Summer Camp Volunteers to support our STEAM summer camp program for kids. The volunteer will work alongside our experienced staff to help plan and implement fun and educational activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with kids, have a love for STEAM subjects, and enjoy collaborating with others in a team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Hive5 staff with planning and delivering STEAM-based activities and lessons for campers.
  • Engage with campers in a positive and supportive manner, helping them to explore and learn about different STEAM subjects.
  • Help to set up and clean up activity stations and materials before and after each activity.
  • Support the safety and wellbeing of campers by ensuring that they follow camp rules and procedures.
  • Participate in daily camp meetings to provide feedback and suggestions for improving the camp experience.
  • Attend training sessions and orientation before the start of camp to learn about the Hive5 curriculum and policies.
  • Collaborate with other volunteers and staff to create a fun and engaging summer camp experience for all campers.
  • Stay outside for recess times and one hour every day to supervise outdoor activities.
  • Monitor the campers during the lunchtime and recess time.
  • Play and set up morning warm up games and afternoon wrap up.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 or older.
  • A passion for working with kids and promoting STEAM education.
  • Be active and energetic and able to encourage the younger camper to be engaged in activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from Hive5 staff and leadership.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and work well under pressure.
  • Experience working with kids, in a summer camp or other educational setting, is preferred but not required.
  • A background in STEAM subjects is a plus, but not required.

STEAM Summer Camp Counsellor

Job description:

Hive5 is an innovative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) center for kids 4 to 12 years old. Hive5 STEAM Summer Camp is an indoor/outdoor summer camp located in Newmarket, Ontario. We have a creative and dynamic environment for the kids, and we run many hands-on projects daily.
Hive5 is looking to hire enthusiastic and passionate STEAM camp counselors for the coming summer of 2025. The Summer Camp Counselors will be responsible for the day-to-day camp operations.
This position is a full-time seasonal opportunity from June 30, 2025 to August 22, 2025.
The Summer Camp Counselors may work in the following hubs: Coding, Robotics, Art and craft, Cooking, Science, Lego engineering, and outdoor sports activities.

Requirements:

  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and creative individual with a minimum of 1-year experience working with school-aged campers in a day camp setting.
  • Organizational and creativity skills.
  • Creative to lead the class and inspire kids in a fun way.

  • An early Childhood Education certificate/degree is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a variety of ages and skill levels

  • Current Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record Check (issued not longer than six months before hiring) is mandatory and can be completed by Hive5.
  • CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Previous day camp experience is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising campers while on-site with our camp program or outside for the sports camp
    Daily ensures children are aware of guidelines and scheduled routines.
  • Encourage individual(s) to participate in the activities one-on-one and within the larger group by engaging them and taking an active participatory role.
  • Program planning, preparing for the activities, running the activities, and hands-on projects.
  • Ensure that the activities and environment continue to be safe for all participants.
  • Set up and take down activities and have time management in daily activities.
  • Communicate effectively with them to resolve any issues.

Art Teacher – After School Program 

Hive5 Innovative STEAM Center, located in Newmarket, seeks a creative and experienced Art Teacher to work with school-aged children and teenagers in fun and engaging learning environment. The Art Teacher will plan and deliver high-quality art lessons and activities using various materials and techniques. The ideal candidate will have a passion for art and education, be able to inspire creativity and self-expression in students and have a strong understanding of child development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement creative and engaging art lesson plans that align with the Hive5 curriculum and meet students’ learning objectives.
  • Prepare and organize art materials, tools, and resources for class use.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to students on using art materials and techniques effectively and safely.
  • Encourage creativity, self-expression, and experimentation in students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation, teamwork, and respect for diversity.
  • Assess and evaluate student work and progress, and provide feedback and support for improvement.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, colleagues, and administrators on student progress and classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate art into other areas of the Hive5 curriculum, including science, technology, engineering, and math.
  • Keep current with current trends and developments in art education, and attend professional development opportunities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Certifications/Experience in Fine Arts, Education or related field.
  • Previous experience teaching Art to school-aged children in a classroom setting.
  • Knowledge of various art materials and techniques, including painting, drawing, sculpture, pottery, craft and mixed media.
  • Knowledge of digital Art is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and motivate students of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and experience and applying them in an educational setting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to promote a positive learning environment.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and meet state and local requirements for teaching certification.
  • Part Time – Monday to Friday, 3-6 PM

Coding & Robotic Teacher – After School Program 

Hive5 is a STEAM-based after-school center located in Newmarket. As an after-school/Summer camp center, we are committed to providing high-quality educational experiences; we believe in the power of hands-on learning to inspire young minds.

We seek enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are passionate about STEAM education and know how to inspire young learners. Your primary responsibility will be to design and implement hands-on projects that align with our STEAM curriculum and cater to our students’ diverse interests and abilities.

As a teacher at Hive5, you will have access to ongoing training and development opportunities. In addition, we encourage you to stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in STEAM education, enabling you to bring fresh ideas and approaches to your teaching practice.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop innovative teaching strategies, experiment with new technologies, and collaborate with a team of dedicated educators.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, develop and update curriculum and course content for Robotics and coding classes for the kids
  • Teaching robotics/coding based on the curriculum

Tracking each student situation and providing feedback to the parents

  • Provide hands-on projects and class works based on the curriculum and lead other instructors and knowledge transfer with others
  • Developing and updating the current curriculum with new content and projects
  • Inspiring and encouraging students to involve in-class activities and tracking their progress
  • Providing a list of materials and equipment needed for the robotic class
  • Setting Coding and Robotic marketing content
  • Setting the robotic and coding lab

Skills and competencies:

  •  Experience in Python, JavaScript, and C++. Knowing other programming languages is an asset
  • Knowledge of installation/troubleshooting OS (Windows, Android, IOS)
  • Knowledge of block-based programming languages such as MIT App Inventor and Scratch
  • Knowledge of programming Cue and Dash and Dot robots
  • Knowledge of making Robots with Raspberry Pi and Arduino platforms
  • Designing part of robots with 3D applications and making with 3d printers
    Knowledge of electrical/mechanical and sensors needed in robotic projects
  • Experience and knowledge in Vex Go and Vex IQ
  • Ready to learn new skills
  • Coding: 1 year (Preferred)
    Teaching kids: 1 year (Preferred)
  • STEM teaching experience (preferred)

This is a part-time afterschool position with possible weekends

 

After School Program Counsellor

Hive5 is an innovative STEAM Centre for kids 4 to 12 years old. We have a creative and dynamic environment for the kids and run many hands-on projects daily.

Hive5 is looking to hire enthusiastic and passionate  counsellors for our After School Program. The Counsellors will work along side our Art & Robotics teachers in the After School program.
